Are Online Marketing Videos Effective?

1.8 Million Words.

What’s so special about 1.8 Million Words? It’s definitely not that it’s the equivalent of 3,600 web pages full of text. It’s also not that it would take an average person 150 days of writing to write that much.

According to Dr. James McQuivey of Forrester Research, 1.8 million words is the amount of pure consumable content that you get from creating a one minute marketing video.

Print definitely still has it’s place-it’s what I’m using to blog with after all—but it’s hard to doubt the effectiveness of a well placed, strategic, and targeted marketing video campaign. Today I wanted to share a few amazing stats that can help maximize your company’s marketing budget this year:

Double your Click-Through Rate

In 2010, an Implix email marketing survey showed that a putting a video in an email campaign boosted click through rates by 96%! Simply including a video in the email doubled the visitors who chose to check out the site after checking out the email. Pretty powerful.

Use an Explainer Video? Even Better!

The Forrester Marketing group’s survey is even more impactful. When companies included an explainer video in an email campaign, the click-through rate increased by 200% to 300%.

Stop those opt-out’s!

Do your email subscribers drop like flies? Eloqua, an automated email provider, ran a study that showed how including a marketing video in an introductory email reduced the number of subscriber opt-outs by 75%. Maybe it’s got something to do with how much more interesting videos can be.

Sell More.

Who doesn’t like selling more? ComScore’s Research shows that if you include a marketing video in your online retail site, customers who watch the video are 64%more likely to buy your product. Can’t get much clearer than that.

Lower Bounce Rate. Improve Engagement.

That same ComScore data shows that sites that utilize video content keep users engaged for 2 minutes longer than sites that don’t. If you have a better way to increase user engagement, please share—we’ll use that our site too!

Takeaway: I think we’ve seen from the numbers here that including marketing video content in your strategy is a pretty fantastic idea. It may be a shift from the norm, but they really do work to raise click-through rates, increase engagement, improve sales!
